We’re all a little Irish in March

I was raised in New York City, where St. Patrick’s Day was a huge holiday. The parade dominated the city and we were sent home early from school to avoid the parade route, but most of us went to the parade anyway. We all wore a bit of green and ate corned beef and soda bread, no matter our background. My father had taught me to play Cockles & Mussels, the Molly Malone song, on the piano from the Fireside Book of Folk Songs and I sang it loudly every year.

I still love St. Patrick’s Day, and I serve corned beef and cabbage, the best meal of the year, in my opinion – despite the fact that none of my family members can stand it. I keep lucky shamrocks in my pocket and hand them out to strangers – also to my children’s dismay -as I was always preaching stranger danger when they were young. I ask my Echo to play Molly Malone by the Dubliners and I sing along – loudly 🙂

I am also a big fan of Irish Blessings. Find a great list from Parade Magazine Here
