Traveling Hands Free

It’s no Secret that since my stroke I need all hands on deck when I travel – Partly because I need to hold on to railings and canes to navigate planes, trains, automobiles as well as stairs and curbs.

I have all kinds of crossbody bags and backpacks.  I try to keep them small, but big enough to hold my phone, wallet, chapstick and my kindle.  I usually throw in a glasses wipes, hand sanitizer and a handkerchief or bandana to act as my emergency napkin too.  I am like a Goldilocks bag lady  – too big, too small, sometimes just right, as long as I don’t add anything else, like a hairbrush or phone charger.  Chargers seem to make bags much heavier.

But really, my all time favorite is a vest with lots of pockets, so I don’t need a purse at all.  ScotteVest has figured it out. Secure, zip pockets that can hold a phone, a kindle, a small wallet, chapstick, wipes and probably much more.  It seems a little heavy when you put it on, but you don’t notice the weight when you are wearing it and it breathes well and provides a great extra layer in the summer for air conditioned venues. It’s machine washable and handles most spills like a champ, so you end up looking presentable even after you arrive.

It comes in a few colors, they also have jackets, but I prefer the vest which I can wear easily under most jackets that I own.  It’s not stylish – more of a sporty look.   You can find them on their website or at Amazon – link below –

I love not fumbling for my phone or cash for tipping, especially now that I have to focus on my footing, but honestly, I wish I had gotten one years ago.
