Thanksgiving Movie Traditions

Growing up, we hid from holidays in darkened movie theaters along 3rd Avenue. The theaters were mostly empty except for our fellow lonely hearts avoiding “family” get togethers, as our families had been fractured by loss. So in a weird way- going to the movies was one of our family traditions. As I grew, I realized that others do find this odd- but it was how we coped.

When our children were small we stayed home and watched It’s A wonderful Life or the Sound of Music- first by VHS then DVD/Blue Ray and now streaming. So when our youngest came home this year and suggested The Eras Tour- we were game- We can’t name a single Taylor Swift Song, but we realize she is a phenomenon and so off we went to an Empty Western Massachusetts movie theater- we brought our masks, just in case, but we basically had a private showing – maybe 4 other souls were in the audience.

Three hours later, we still can’t name a single Taylor Swift Song , and honestly we could not understand most of the lyrics, except for “cruel summer”, “shake it off”, and “I’m the problem, it’s me,” but we were wowed by the hype, the production and the special effects, especially the swim- which I don’t think is a spoiler alert.
