You don’t have to be lucky enough to live in New England to be familiar with Norman Rockwell

Born in New York City on February 3, 1894, he lived in Arlington,Vermont from 1939 until 1953 when he moved to Stockbridge, MA. Collections of his work are on display in both towns.

Rockwell’s colonial era Vermont home has been restored and operates as a Bed and Breakfast known as Rockwell’s Retreat Also in town, at The Sugar Shack, you’ll find a Rockwell exhibition of the many works that include local residents who were frequent models. Arlington is 68 miles north of Stockbridge.


The Stockbridge museum was founded in 1969 and moved to its current location and custom built building in 1993. It also contains Rockwell’s studio that was moved to the site from Main Street. The museum hosts exhibits of other artists in addition to Rockwell. The museum is family friendly and handicap accessible. It’s approximately 2 ½ hours from New York City and 2 hours west of Boston.
