In the early morning, in August, you can find me on the back porch drinking my coffee and enjoying the hummingbirds feasting on the Rose of Sharon. It is quite a show.
Hummingbirds remind me of two of my favorites. My maternal grandfather, Oliver Edes, who showed me my first hummingbird, feeding on the Hollyhocks in his Plymouth garden, when I was small. As well as My Aunt Nan, who had the first hummingbird feeder I had ever seen, hanging from a crab apple tree in her ‘Sconset yard. We would sit just outside her kitchen door, binoculars in hand, to watch them. Simple Joys.
