I have been receiving lots of inquiries about my go bag that I keep packed for hospital visits. This is what mine looks like. An oldie but goodie from a Paper Source – Rifle – Le SportsSac collaboration back in the day.
This reminds me of the old I packed my grandmother’s trunk game…. And in it I put
- Chap stick
- Travel Size Lotion
- Hair Brush, Hair Band, Scrunchies
- Toothbrush & Tooth paste
- Saline Nose spray
- Quiet Comfort Head phones
- Phone bag and charger with Extension Cord
- Kindle Fire – with charger for reading & Netflix
- Neck Pillow
- Zip up Hoodie
- Leggings
- Lap Blanket
- Underwear
You can also bring an iPad – I prefer the Kindle Fire, because it’s less expensive – if you lose it – and it doesn’t have access to all my cloud info.
The neck pillow helps a lot for falling asleep sitting up, and the hoodie is sort of a modern day bed jacket with pockets, but any cardigan will do. Leggings are handy for laps around the corridors and the lap blanket is handy for wheelchair rides.
I have also been known to give hospital bags to friends who are going to be patients for chemo, surgery or rehab. For these, I stick to the basics, chapstick, lotion, earbuds, phone charger and Kindle – If you do this for a friend – preload the Kindle Fire with books and movies. If they don’t have a smart phone – preload an old iPod – there is probably one in your junk drawer – with music, audiobooks or podcasts for them – It is great to be able to tune out hospital noise and actually doze.
One last thing that is optional is a watch or battery operated travel clock. I always want to know what time it is when I wake up – no matter the hour – and usually the clock is on the wall behind the bed – Don’t bother bringing a smart watch – one more thing to lose and charge…..

I like these beaded “club” bags from Bamboo Trading – for my phone -Lots of designs to choose from – they have a zip pocket (think chapstick) a short and a long strap – you can actually secure to a bedrail to prevent fallen phones 🙂
