Canine cuisine

8 quart crockpot

I never expected to be cooking for my dogs, but it’s actually quite easy and affordable and oh, my do they love me for it.

Of course, unconditional love is the greatest perk of having a dog. They never complain and eat what’s put in front of them, unless they are ill and that’s how our canine cuisine journey began with an abscessed tooth.

I started with a crockpot and an internet recipe and I haven’t looked back.

Find the recipe on Happy and Yummy

Chicken, veggies, rice, bone broth and voila- Set it and forget it. I scoop into freezer jars, but you can use plastic ziplock bags if you prefer. If I forget to take one out to defrost. They microwave in 30 seconds. It actually takes less time than hauling home kibble and filling up the container we keep it in,and it costs less.

Since I am not handy with a knife , I use frozen diced chicken and sweet potato and frozen mixed veggies. I use brown rice or barley and sometimes I throw in lentils.

Finished product

I read a variation on this recipe that recommended adding chicken livers and while the dogs liked it- I was not a fan of the color or the smell-so that was a one time thing

As a bonus- I also use this mixture to fill their pupsicle trays from Woof.

These ingenious balls unscrew to fill and keep my pups entertained for about ½ hour…. Which buys me time for a cup of coffee in the morning:)

The trays are silicone so the treats are easy to pop out and both the tray and balls are dishwasher safe…. They also make shelf stable treats you can insert Much less messier than their Kong toys were.

You can find them at most pet stores and on Amazon
